JOB TITLE: INSTRUCTIONAL COACH

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

 

Under general supervision, performs a variety of administrative tasks in coordinating the successful implementation of district initiatives, programs, and curriculum as aligned with North Carolina Standard Course Study. Employee is responsible for interpreting changes to the North Carolina Curriculum, informing teachers and principals of the implications of those changes, and ensuring that instruction is aligned with curriculum goals. Employee coaches teachers in developing strategies and techniques for assessing and increasing student achievement. Employee also assists teachers with textbooks and other materials selection and provides teachers with various tools and resources to aid instruction. Employee assists administrators with evaluating the effectiveness of initiatives implementation and develops strategies for instruction. 

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Assists K through 12 teachers with improving techniques for instruction and improving overall student achievement; provides instructional strategies and various tools to aid the instructional process; observes teachers and provides feedback and/or demonstration lessons. 

 

Is a member of the school’s instructional leadership team and collaborates with other members of that team to provide a comprehensive approach to implementing curriculum, instruction, assessment and organizational goals of the school and district.

 

Assists with the overall evaluation of district initiatives and programs and develops strategies for improvement; coordinates and provides staff development opportunities. 

Ensures teachers and principals are familiar with any changes to the North Carolina Curriculum; designs curriculum, new course offerings and guidelines for student placement. 

Assist with the development of district formative assessments. 

Assists the school system with the acquisition of appropriate textbooks, teacher guides and other instructional materials and equipment. 

Assists teachers in efficient, exemplary instructional decision-making through reflective planning. 

Provides consultation on long-term teacher curriculum planning. 

Provides presentations and workshops to small and large groups of teachers to accelerate the use of exemplary instructional practices to improve student achievement. 

Assists schools in clarifying achievement goals and focus. 

Promotes teamwork and the use of data for planning. 

Participates in regularly scheduled professional learning community meetings as required. 

Collaborates with other curriculum and academic staff to provide an integrated program. 

Provides support to teachers in their classrooms through coaching, modeling, and mentoring. 

Accelerates positive change in the school through collaborative relationships. 

Provides individual and team conferencing with individual teachers, grade level teams, departments, and small groups across grade levels. 

Provides demonstration lessons for teachers, especially focusing on literacy/numeracy and increasing achievement. 

 

 

 

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs other related work as required. 

 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE 

Bachelor’s Degree and certification in education with extensive and successful work in literacy and numeracy. At least 5-7 years of experience in classroom instruction with evidence of exemplary practice in curriculum, instruction, and organization and/or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must be certified to teach in the State of North Carolina and hold a current teachers license.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 

Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
