JOB TITLE: LIBRARY/MEDIA SPECIALIST
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
To provide an instructional program that is integrated into the school’s educational goals and objectives.
REPORTS TO: Principal
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- To select and acquire materials to implement the curriculum and to meet the individual interest, ability and maturity levels of students
- To organize and distribute all media and audio-visual equipment for effective use
- To participate in curriculum planning and program development and implementation and to develop a close working relationship among teachers, principals and other media librarians
- To create an attractive environment and atmosphere that encourages students and teachers to use the media center
- To stimulate and guide students in all phases of their reading, viewing, and listening, so that they may effectively assimilate information
- To provide instruction in cooperation with the staff in media and resource skills
- To provide media center experiences to help students develop satisfactory personal relationships, social attitudes, and vocation and vocational interests
- To conduct with teachers and volunteer personnel (adult and student) in-service and other staff development activities in the use of audio-visual equipment and materials
- To acquaint the staff and students with the media collection and with new materials
- To assist the principal in ensuring that instructional materials and equipment are used to provide learning experiences compatible with the educational needs of students
- Participate as a member of the district Media/Technology Advisory Committee
- Coordinates school media and technology plans as chair of the school-level Media/Technology Advisory Committee
