JOB TITLE: TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under limited supervision the employee is responsible for the school district transportation program. Plans and directs work based on the interpretation and application of guidelines. Supervises all employees in the transportation department.
REPORTS TO: CFO
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Develops procedures for vehicular service and repair and assists with preventative maintenance procedures of all state and local vehicles. Maintains inventory of all parts and tire usage for the transportation and maintenance departments.
- Tests new equipment.
- Applies standards for vehicle replacement.
- Develops transportation routes and arranges for/transports students with special needs.
- Conducts transportations studies related to school consolidation or improvement of existing services.
- Investigates and reports accidents.
- Communicates with Department of Transportation regarding the conditions of roads, bridges, signs, etc.
- Makes recommendations regarding hazardous road conditions.
- Develops and monitors budgets for the Transportation Department.
- Communicates with mechanics on upkeep of buses and ensures the inspection all buses as required.
- Directs the preparation and submission of all transportation reports.
- Reports on disposal of pollutants and other hazardous materials from vehicles.
- Collaborates with school principals in the recruitment of drivers, manages and recommends the selection, training, discipline, and termination of bus drivers.
- Supervises the Transportation Information Management System.
- Supervises the district’s drug testing program.
- Supervises the district’s seized vehicle program as established in North Carolina House Bill 448.
- Promotes systematic procedures in the loading and unloading of students and dismissing and parking school buses on school grounds.
- Manages cost accounting related to the transportation department.
- Coordinates scheduling of the activity bus fleet.
- Receives, stores, and issues transportation parts, materials, and supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned
